Lubricating oil is divided into three categories: animal and vegetable oil, petroleum lubricating oil and synthetic lubricating oil according to its source. The amount of petroleum lubricating oil accounts for more than 97% of the total consumption, so lubricating oil often refers to petroleum lubricating oil. It is mainly used to reduce the friction between the surfaces of moving parts, and at the same time has the functions of cooling, sealing, anti-corrosion, anti-rust, insulation, power transmission, cleaning impurities and other functions of machinery and equipment. It is mainly based on lubricating oil fractions and residual oil fractions from crude oil distillation units. The most important properties of lubricating oils are viscosity, oxidation stability and lubricity, which are closely related to the composition of lubricating oil fractions. Viscosity is an important quality indicator that reflects the fluidity of lubricating oils. Different conditions of use have different viscosity requirements. Heavy loads and low speed machinery should use high-viscosity Lubricants. Oxidation stability indicates the oxidation resistance of an oil due to temperature, oxygen in the air and metal catalysis in the environment in which it is used. After the oxidation of the oil, according to the conditions of use, fine asphaltene-based carbon-like substances, viscous lacquer substances or paint films, or viscous water-containing substances will be generated, thereby reducing or losing its performance. Lubricity indicates the wear reduction properties of an oil.
